Collectibles: Pepsi And Coca-Cola Are Hot!
People love collecting items that can be saved for many purposes. Some items are collected purely for aesthetic purposes because the owner enjoys looking at the items they have purchased. Other collectors buy for the purpose of passing collections down to future generations. Still others collect as an investment hoping that the items they buy will increase in value.
No matter what a collector happens to collect, online auctions are a prime source of collectibles. It would be difficult to imagine any kind of collectible that doesn't show up on the World Wide Web, and online auction houses makes purchasing collectibles easy to find.
There are many collectibles available for purchase online. Among them are sports memorabilia, soft drink collectibles like Pepsi, Coke and Dr. Pepper items and baseball cards. Baseball cards are an especially attractive online purchase because they are so light. They cost very little to ship. This makes them much more appealing to online dealers. Heavy items like classic cars are not as likey to by bought and sold online.
While many buy collectibles in online auctions, some don't realize they can also sell their collectibles in the auctions. Items like glass Coca Cola bottles may be difficult to safely ship, but you can earn money from other Pepsi and Coca Cola brand products that can be safely shipped.
Many collectors make money by searching local antique shops and flea markets and reselling their bought items online. Because the online market is a global one versus the local nature of a brick and mortar store, one can often increase the amount an item would sell for by offering it online. The price of collectibles often varies by where you are when you find it.
Buying collectibles online has its downside, too. Since you are negotiating for an item without being able to see it first, you are leaving yourself open for fraud if the seller happens to be dishonest. We've all seen people on the "Antiques Roadshow" who think they bought an original item and paid big bucks for it when it actually turns out to be a reproduction that's worth almost nothing. Not everyone online is dishonest, though, so we can weed out many fraudulent deals just by using common sense. Online auctions that offer feedback comments from previous buyers are helpful, and deals that come with a money-back guarantee are also safer bets.
