Golf Lessons Online

featuring John Spina, PGA pro
produced by R & J Productions

The other night while doing my usual websearching, I stumbled onto the website called Golf Lessons Online. One of my passions over the last few years has been the effective use of online training, and so this site was of particular interest. Most golf video guys would much rather pack up a box and send it out in the mail. But these guys (John and Randy) have done it right. This is a well done, simple to navigate, quality site that gets straight to the point — it's about the videos, and that's all it's about!

The videos themselves cover the full spectrum of shots and techniques: from driving to putting, and the more than 100 2-3 minute segments will keep you busy for quite a while. That's somewhere in the neighbourhood of 3 or 4 hours of instruction folks. Well worth the $5.95/mo charge. In fact it's probably too cheap. If you can't finish them off in the first month, just let the subscription run for another month. When you've had enough, just cancel your subscription.

Generally speaking the production quality of these units is above average. The audio is clear, and the video is more than adequate. Spina does a fine job with the scripts — quite a feat as you will know if you've ever tried to do something like this.

A couple of comments:
Personally I would like it better if golf pros didn't wear their hats when doing videos. The shadow makes it a bit harder to see that beautiful smile. And, just one other point, while the actual video player windows are really well done, they could use navigation buttons back to the main control panel. It's pretty easy to get lost when you have multiple windows opening. You can never have too many navigation buttons.

But those are pretty nit-picky points, I'm sure you would agree. On the whole, I highly recommend these lessons to anyone wanting an inexpensive, straight to the point, well produced, and very convenient roadmap to improving his or her golf game.

The WEG rating: 4.5/5
