Blue Jackets Blow Lead, Lose To Penguins In Shootout

Posted on Tuesday, 7th September 2010 in Recreation

The Columbus Blue Jackets learned a valuable lesson about NHL hockey on Friday night-it’s dangerous to ’sit on a lead’ and particularly against the defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins. Down 3-1, Pittsburgh tied the game late in the third period as Ruslan Fedotenko and Alex Goligoski each lit the lamp with less than three minutes remaining. After a scoreless overtime period, Sidney Crosby scored the only goal of the shootout to give the Penguins an improbable 4-3 victory. It was the 9th win in ten games for Pittsburgh, who are a perfect 6-0-0 on the road. Columbus lost for the fifth time in six games.

NHL hockey betting enthusiasts cashed wagers on the road underdog Penguins, but on the moneyline at +117 and the puckline. Pittsburgh has gotten off to a great start this year, going 11-2-0 in the first month of the season. Columbus is struggling to stay above .500 at 6-5-1. The 7 combined goals scored went OVER the posted total of 5′.

Crosby’s game winning score in overtime wasn’t exactly the stuff of highlight reels, with the puck barely trickling over the line:

“It was kind of a fluky. The puck kept going. I don’t know if he lost it or he didn’t know where it was or whatever. I just tried a quick shot. I thought he had the save there. It just trickled in.”

Jackets’ goalie Steve Mason gave this version of events:

“It hit my stick and I didn’t get it settled until it was over the line. It just trickled over and I was too late on it.”

Penguins’ left winger Chris Kunitz scored a shorthanded goal and praised the leadership abilities of team captain Crosby:

“It shows a lot of character from our captain. He goes out and he’s never quitting on anything. Sometimes a team goes packing, down by two with 3 minutes left. But he goes out, he’s on the bench, he’s saying, ‘Let’s get the next one.’ So we go out there and he finds himself the puck and he gets it to Goligoski, he gets a great shot and puts it in the net to get us to overtime.”

Columbus’ Rick Nash suggested that his team is having trouble ‘closing out’ games:

“We’re not closing games. We got the lead in a lot of the games already and just can’t seem to close it out. They are the defending Stanley Cup champions. You can tell why they’re such a good team. We are a team that needs to learn how to play with the lead.”

Pittsburgh will host Minnesota on Saturday night before heading to southern California next week for games against the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks. Columbus will play at Washington on Sunday before hosting the San Jose Sharks next Wednesday. That’ll be followed by a game in Atlanta against the Thrashers the next night.

Falcons Win Big On Road, Top 49ers

Posted on Monday, 6th September 2010 in Recreation

It’s obvious that the San Francisco 49ers are heading in the right direction under Mike Singletary, but you couldn’t tell by watching their game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. The Falcons scored six touchdowns against the Niners, with running back Michael Turner accounting for three of the scores as Atlanta routed San Francisco by a lopsided 45-10 final score. It was the Niners’ worst defeat since a 41-0 loss back in 2006 under former coach Mike Nolan. San Francisco fell to 3-2 with the defeat while the Falcons improved to 3-1.

The NFL betting lines had the game listed as a ‘PICK’, giving the Falcons the ATS win with their easy straight up victory. It was the 49ers first loss against the spread this season, while Atlanta upped their record to 3-1 to the money.

After the game, the fiery Singletary apologized for cussing out former 49er and current Falcons’ lineman Harvey Dahl:

“I’ll put it this way: I wish I had more coaching etiquette. I don’t. I love my players and when someone responds about my players in a particular way, I may do some things I shouldn’t do. I have to get better at those things as time goes on. Even though the player was talking to me, I should not have said what I said. It wasn’t anything bad, it was just something that shouldn’t have happened.”

Roddy White set a Falcons’ record with 210 receiving yards, and was assessed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on his second touchdown of the day. With his team in full control, Atlanta coach Mike Smith had to be amused:

“He didn’t hit the landing because if he hits the landing it’s not a 15-yard penalty. I told him if he’s going to do it, it needs to be Olga Korbut. And he looked at me like he doesn’t know who Olga Korbut is. Then I told him, ‘Well, maybe Mary Lou Retton.’ And then I figure that’s ‘86, he doesn’t know who Mary Lou Retton is. It went right over his head and my head.”

Smith admitted that he hadn’t been in top form so far this season:

“I felt like I haven’t been playing well up to this point in the season. Me and coach Smith had a talk. He was like, ‘You gotta get back to being yourself again. You gotta go out there and be the old Roddy. No pressure. Just go out there and play.’”

The Falcons will return home on Sunday to host the Chicago Bears, with Atlanta a -3 home favorite and the total set at 45′. They’ll play their next two on the road, traveling to Texas for a game against the Dallas Cowboys the following week and to New Orleans to face the Saints on Monday, November 2. The 49ers will have a bye this week before traveling to Houston to play the Texans on October 25. They’ll play at Indianapolis the following Sunday before returning home to take on the Tennessee Titans on November 8.

Boise State Stomps Bowling Green

Posted on Sunday, 5th September 2010 in Recreation

Bowling Green played Boise State tough on their home field this weekend–at least for one quarter. Things looked good for the host Falcons at the end of the first quarter, as they’d held the #6 ranked Broncos scoreless and were right in the thick of things in a scoreless game. It was all downhill from that point for Bowling Green, as Boise State exploded for 29 unanswered second quarter points. The Broncos would eventually win 49-14, improving to 4-0 on the season. Bowling Green dropped to 1-3 as Boise improved their record against the MAC to 6-2 all time.

The Broncos easily covered as -16 road favorites. The 63 combined points went OVER the posted total of 51. Boise State needed four plays or less on their first six scoring drives, and amassed a season high 529 yards of total offense. Their defense also forced the Falcons into three costly turnovers. By halftime, the game was essentially over.

Boise State coach Chris Petersen had insisted on more quick strike scoring drives in preparing his team for the Bowling Green game. They most definitely delivered, and the coach commented to their performance after the contest:

“On offense, that’s always the name of the game. It makes it a lot easier when you don’t have those 15- and 17-play drives.”

Broncos quarterback Kellen Moore threw 17 completions in 21 pass attempts for a total of 247 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. 195 of his total yards came during the 2nd quarter onslaught, where he completed 8 consecutive passes during one stretch. After the game, Moore indicated that his team wasnt resting on their impressive season to date performance:

“There’s a lot of football to go and a lot of things to work on.

Coach Petersen concurred with his quarterbacks mindset:

“These guys are a fairly mature bunch and if not, we have a staff of mature coaches to keep them focused.

Bowling Green head coach Dave Clawson sounded somewhat in awe of the Broncos ‘quick strike’ offense:

“That’s what they do. When they have 500 yards of offense, it will always be 10 to 12 plays where half their offense came from.”

The Broncos, who are enjoying their highest regular season ranking in school history, looked sharp all around on offense despite the absence of second leading rusher DJ Harper. Harper is likely out for the year after a knee injury.

Bowling Green will take a step down in class of opposition next weekend as they host the Ohio Bobcats. Theyll play on the road the next two weeks, traveling to Kent State and Ball State. Boise will return home for a game against FCS opponent UC Davis next Saturday. Theyll play on the road at Tulsa the following weekend, before enjoying a bye week. Theyll be back in action on October 25 as they make the long trip to play the University of Hawaii.

The Movie Hit Exiled: A Fair Review

Posted on Saturday, 4th September 2010 in Recreation

Exiled is really its own thing in the world of action movies. If you’ve grown bored with the recent Hollywood trend of shaky cameras, incoherent action scenes and split second editing, Exiled is a breath of fresh air. If you want to see action that’s clear, coherent, and carries a sort of odd, dreamlike quality, put Exiled on your movie downloads queue.

Years after a top ranked lieutenant in the Triad betrays his boss, the boss, played by Simon Yam, sends a pair of hitmen to take him out. Meanwhile, two members of the gang come to protect the man. These characters were all friends in the gang, and it’s out of duty that the two hitmen come to kill their old partner. They come to a compromise and decide to pull off a big score to support the man’s wife and child before settling their conflict.

There’s a warmth and sweetness to what happens. Where most gangster movies are defined by that cold, impersonal “Just Business” approach to violence, here, none of the characters really want to shoot at each other, they’ve been friends since they were young, and they seem upset that it’s come to this.

This movie comes from Johnnie To, the legendary Hong Kong director who came up around the same time as John Woo and Ringo Lam, in the Heroic Bloodshed era. Where those movies were driven by anger at the Chinese takeover of Hong Kong, Exiled was made after the takeover, when it was shown that things hadn’t changed quite as much as the Hong Kong people were expecting.

The dreamlike quality to the film is really something. Shootouts take place in slow motion, with action that takes only thirty seconds being expanded to several minutes. One incredible scene begins with a character throwing a Red Bull can into the air, and climaxes just as the empty can hits the floor, with bullets flying and people dying over the course of an incredible slow motion bullet ballet.

The story isn’t always quite as clear as the action, but this actually helps to improve the dreamlike quality of the film. To himself has admitted that he finds the film confusing and still hasn’t quite made sense of it. Watch it for the characters and the action, though, and you’ll be able to appreciate the movie in full.

The Heroic Bloodshed era of Hong Kong action flicks was certainly an incredible time for film lovers. Hard Boiled and City on Fire defined the genre, being angry, explosive films, showing independent characters taking on the masses as a symbol of Hong Kong independence against Chinese communism. Lam and Woo went to Hollywood, and you could argue the qualities of their American films. Johnnie To stayed behind and turned the genre into something entirely different.

Exiled is a rare action film, and certainly one to see if you want something a little different than the usual shaky-cam shootout flick. It’s really a refreshing breath of fresh air if you’re sick and tired of not being able to tell who’s shooting who and how the heck that guy got on the roof. Definitely a change of pace.

North Carolina Stuns Nationally Ranked West Virginia

Posted on Friday, 3rd September 2010 in Recreation

The University of North Carolina used a 21 yard field goal on the final play of the game to pull a big college football upset over #13 Virginia Tech on Thursday night, winning by a final score of 20-17. The Tar Heels’ #8 ranked defense proved as tenacious as their high national status would suggest, and gave the Hokies fits throughout. North Carolina led for most of the game, but withstood a late game Virginia Tech comeback bid to take the win. Both teams are now 5-3 on the college football season.

College football betting enthusiasts who took North Carolina as +16′ road underdogs were never in serious doubt about the eventual payday they’d receive as the Tar Heels never trailed by more than three points. The Tar Heels improved to 3-4 against the college football pointspread, while the Hokies dropped to 3-5 versus the money. The 37 combined points scored went UNDER the posted total of 43′. North Carolina has gone UNDER in four of six games this season, while Virginia Tech evened their college football totals record at 4-4.

Tar Heels’ QB T.J. Yates was in a state of disbelief after the narrow road victory:

“I’ve never really had this feeling before. Kicking it at the last second? It just sends chills down your spine.”

Running back Shaun Draughn spoke of the team’s priority to bounce back quickly after they blew a big lead in a loss to Florida State last week:

“We knew we had to get back to the drawing board. To come back and play the way we did definitely speaks volumes about our team.”

In the Hokies’ locker room, linebacker Cody Grimm spoke of his team’s need to regain their focus:

“I think the motivation is to come out here so you don’t feel like this again. Ten wins is one thing, but I don’t want to feel like this any more and the only way to do that is to win.”

Running back Ryan Williams felt doubly bad about the loss, as his late game fumble cemented the victory for North Carolina:

“As of right now, there probably isn’t really anything they can say to lift me up because regardless of what anybody says, personally I feel like I kind of took the game away from us today. It was on the line, it was in my hands and I fumbled.”

The Hokies will play against next Thursday night, heading to Greenville, NC to face the Skip Holtz coached East Carolina Pirates. They’ll play at Maryland on Saturday, November 15 before returning home a week later to host North Carolina State. North Carolina plays their next two at home, starting a week from Saturday against Duke. Miami will come in the following week before the Tar Heels hit the road to play at Boston College on November 21.

Must Know Facts For The Newbie Skateboarder

Posted on Thursday, 2nd September 2010 in Sports

No one is a great skateboarder the very first day. Of course there are those who get the basics down fast. Then, of course, some people need more time to catch on to the motions, overall feel, and the balance aspects. All skaters learned helpful tricks/tips from their friends that helped to learn quicker. So here we’ll cover some helpful tips you can use when you’re looking for your first skateboard and start learning to ride.

You’ll need to be wearing the right foot gear. You must be able to use your feet properly so you can have the best control over the board. Sure, yeah – you can wear combat boots if you want. But if you want to do anything remotely cool, or if you commute to work, then you’ll really want the right footwear. A skateboarding athletic shoe is flat inside of it. There is little to no arch support, which is done on purpose. This allows you to use the muscles in your feet to control the board and to give your board more control. Most if not all skate shops have them, as well as most shoe stores. And they’re not over-priced, too.

It’s important to come to terms with fear. Many new skateboarders are too scared to do too much too quickly. They understand very fast that there’s not much in the way between being safe and getting injured. If you want to get better, you have to face this fear and deal with it. If you refuse to deal with this kind of fear, then you’ll always be on the outside watching others do the tricks you want to do, too. You’ll only get over this fear by practicing as much as possible. The more you can practice, the more open you’ll become to taking risks and trying new stuff. Learning the best way to fall will help you, too. The more and more you deal with these aspects of skating, the quicker and better you’ll get.

Ok, decide how you want to be standing on your board. Skaters use a variety of stances for different kinds of skating situations. The easiest thing to do is stand on your board and just be still. So just find what works best for you, find your position that you think you can hold for a while. Now all you need is to determine how you’ll be pushing off to get some speed. So then you try to push-off without needing to go fast/far. Skaters use different push-off techniques. But for now you just want to find a way that’s works best for you.

However, skateboarding basics can seem tough if you aren’t willing to practice. No person ever became a pro fast. Take it slow so you can learn control. You control the board, if not – the board controls you, and that’s a recipe for getting hurt.

Our specialties are baseball team set and bridge saws – learn more now.

Eskimos Outlast Stampeders In Wild CFL Matchup

Posted on Wednesday, 1st September 2010 in Recreation

The Edmonton Eskimos survived a wild back and forth CFL shootout against the Calgary Stampeders before prevailing 38-35 to take over sole possession of first place in the CFL West. Ricky Ray hit Fred Stamps with a 23 yard touchdown pass with just nine seconds to play to earn the victory, erasing the lead that Calgary had earned with their own TD pass less than a half minute earlier.

After the game, winning QB Ricky Ray said that he enjoyed the wild contest:

“That was a ton of fun. In the CFL you get to play in a lot of games like this, especially against a guy like (Calgary quarterback Henry) Burris, who has done this to us. It’s great to come out on the winning end of a shoot-out like that. It’s a great uplift for the team. It’s a huge win for us.”

With a bye week on deck, Eskimos head coach Richie Hall said that the win couldn’t have come at a better time:

“Regardless of what happens, we are coming back in first place. Now we have one up on Calgary. It’s going to be a dogfight for all the teams in the West and any chance you get to win, especially a win like this, it’s a real bonus. It’s great for our confidence.”

Calgarys Burris remembered a very similar situation in a game last year where Edmonton won by the same margin on a last play touchdown:

“They got us last year in this situation and of course you didn’t think it was going to happen again or even could happen again. It felt so great to get that late touchdown and with 38 seconds on the clock nobody was even thinking about last year. We had to stop Jackson and we didn’t. And we had to stop Ray and we didn’t. Kudos to Edmonton.”

Both teams have a bye next week. Calgary returns to action on Aug. 28 in Toronto while the Eskimos will next play on Aug. 29 when they host Hamilton. The two CFL provincial rivals from Alberta will face each other twice more this season.

Portland Trailblazers, Brandon Roy Agree To Contract Extension

Posted on Tuesday, 31st August 2010 in Recreation

After extensive negotiations, the Portland Trailblazers have signed All Star shooting guard Brandon Roy to a five year contract extension. Roy will be in the final year of his rookie contract in the 2009-2010 NBA season, and securing the services of a player that did no less than turn around the franchise was the teams top summer priority.

Brandon Roy may have saved the Portland NBA franchise thanks to his on-court talent and off the court class. The Blazers slumped from their glory years of the 1970’s and 1980’s as the 1990’s progressed, eventually pulling together a roster consisting of character challenged reprobates that earned the moniker JailBlazers for their frequent legal transgressions.

With the Blazers fans staying away from the arena in droves, team owner Paul Allen had finally had enough. In the late 1990’s, he gutted the franchise management and cleaned house. The new management was given the charge to put together a roster that would not only win games, but win back the Rose City fans. The acquisition of Roy will likely be looked at as the turning point for this effort. The Blazers acquired Roy on draft day 2006 for Randy Foye, and would go on to win the NBAs rookie of the year award.

Since that point, Roy has become the face of the franchise. The Blazers”who were 21-61 the year before Roy arrived”posted a 54-28 record last season. Roy has become the centerpiece of a talented young team had has not only become a force in the NBAs Western Conference but has gone a long way to winning back the Portland fan base. The current crop of Blazers is more likely to be found in the aisles at Home Depot or at Starbucks than in the police blotter, and the team seldom puts forth a substandard effort on the court.

The first four years of Roy’s 5 year $84 million deal are guaranteed, while the fifth is at the players option. Roys agent Bob Myers strongly suggested that Roy wanted to remain with the Blazers for his entire career, noting that he “is one of the unique players to have a chance to have that sort of relationship with one team.”

The Blazers now turn their attention to working out a long term deal with power forward LaMarcus Aldridge. Like Roy, Aldridge is in the final year of his rookie contract and a key component to the teams recent success. At last report, talks between the two sides are progressing.

See The Hit Film The Wrestler

Posted on Monday, 30th August 2010 in Recreation

What do you mean you haven’t seen The Wrestler yet? It may well be one of the top ten movie downloads of the last decade! Everything you’ve head about this movie is true. Mickey Rourke gives the performance of a lifetime, making a strong comeback, and the film itself may well be director Darren Aronofsky’s masterpiece.

Rourke’s performance is the heart, the soul and the body of the film. He takes some real bumps and went through training to actually learn how to wrestle. That’s really him in the ring. He had a stunt double for a few shots, but for the most part, that’s really him. Randy the Ram is an incredible and very human character.

Randy’s lifestyle has alienated everyone he’s ever loved and seriously done a number on his body. He has to see if he can make a comeback, both in the ring, where he’s washed up, and in his personal life, where he doesn’t even have a loyal fanbase to keep him going.

The movie is heart wrenching, incredibly emotional, and while it shows Randy as he is, as a man who has hurt himself and others with his lifestyle, it never judges him or looks down on him. Randy the Ram is a lovable guy, and it becomes tragic that all cannot be forgiven so easily.

Again, it’s all about Mickey Rourke here. The story of the Wrestler is as much his as it is Randy’s. Rourke himself has made a few mistakes, and just like Randy, was on the comeback trail. So the result is that he doesn’t just play this role, he lived it. Interestingly, the role was going to go to Nicholas Cage, but Cage dropped out so that Rourke could take it.

This resulted in a smaller budget which actually helps to improve the movie. Randy wrestles for smaller crowds, not packed stadiums with the WWE, so this really drives home his passion. Whether he’s wrestling for a few dozen or a few thousand, he always gives every last drop of sweat and blood to the ring.

It’s an old story with cliche characters, but it never feels that way. Because it’s imbued with such humanity and honesty, it feels fresh and new, despite the fact that we’ve all heard of the down-on-his-luck fighter before.

The movie manages to warm your heart and break it at the same time. It’s something like Rocky meets Raging Bull in the world of sports movies, and the ending carries a double meaning. We won’t spoil it for you, but it’s worth a moment of reflection after the acoustic Bruce Springsteen song plays out over the end credits.

I already had a good MiniDV digital camera, but I needed to get some lights. spongebob the movie goofy goober Power soca music is largely music to jump, wave and “wine” to. It needs to be interesting, well-written, informative and to-the-point, for this is you marketing yourself.

Spend Less On Movies

Posted on Sunday, 29th August 2010 in Recreation

There are many ways you can rent a movie now. The old way of getting movies was the video sore. A new option is movie downloads from the web. Merely make a few clicks and you will soon be watching one of your favorite films.

Those sites that are legal allow you to burn the file onto a playable DVD so that you will be able to watch it at home, even without the aid of computer or laptop. Legal movie download sites have permission to allow downloading of the films they offer. There are other site that often are offering illegal downloads.

The key to finding a great site for movie downloads is making a thorough search. You will want to find a site that has all the latest movies. Some sites might even have free downloads. In addition the procedures should be simple and straight forward. Most movie download sites recognize this and make the process very easy.

Until recently, the internet users have used peer to peer file sharing sites primarily. Kazaa and BitTorrent are examples of peer to peer movie download sites. They allow user to share movie files, but this might violate copyright laws. Many people use these methods of getting movies.

The titles should be organized well so movies are easy to find. Download managers are sometimes a requirement for downloading from some sites. Such a program will keep track of all the movies in your queue. You will also need a video player installed if there is no such software on your computer.

Movie Capital is a movie download site that you pay an annual membership, and can make unlimited downloads. The deal on their website has the option of either terminating or renewing the membership. As long as you are a member in their site, you will have the access to all the movies available. Remember that you want to find a website that will be user friendly for the consumers.

A YouTube movie download is legal. They have the approval from the motion picture studios to make the films they offer available for downloading. These “legal” downloads are the ones you should be looking for.

Movie downloads are a great idea for entertainment. It is preferable to theaters because you don’t need to leave the comfort of your home. If you have a good TV you are all set.

Before you know it, youve created an imaginary international beef and anticipation for both of your album releases. buy old movies Prominent sites like Yahoo and MSN can be very expensive. What we would have done differently, and done the same.
